REGULAR MEETING

OCTOBER 6, 2008
                                        
                                                
  • Call to Order – Chair Bernie Corona called the regular meeting of the Veteran’s Affairs Commission to order at 7:06 pm on October 6, 2008 in Town Council Chambers.  
A. Pledge of Allegiance

B.      Roll Call - PRESENT: Bernie Corona, Dominic Fulco, Sr., Kirk Allison, Arden Passaro, Mary-Ann Roczynski, J. Roger Pelletier, Paul Barry.

                EXCUSED: William Miller                 ABSENT: Stan deMello


  • Approval of Minutes – Bernie went over the minutes of the last meeting and the Special Meeting Minutes regarding the revision of the vote to donate to the Traveling Wall. The vote was all in favor of the $125 donation and the check was received by the 1st District Vietnam Wall Memorial Committee.  Dominic Fulco made a motion to accept the minutes and the Special Meeting Minutes, seconded by Mary-Ann Roczynski.  It was unanimously voted to approve the minutes of the September 8, 2008 and the Special Meeting Minutes of September 29, 2008.

  • Old Business  
  • Paul updated the Commission on the Traveling Wall.  Thanked the Commission for the donation received.  The Committee is about 95% done wrapping up final details.  The event will be held next October 16-19.  Should be a good turnout.  Mary-Ann asked for volunteers to help at the reception.  Bernie volunteered to help.

  • New Business  
  • Bernie went over the new Change in VA system reporting tax abatement (disabled veterans).  They will not be using forms anymore; everyone will just be getting a letter.  Mary-Ann also noted that families with two or more veterans can use their exemptions for property tax and vehicle tax.
  • Mary-Ann informed the Commission on recent visits to other Town Halls and how they honor their Veterans with a dedicated area and pictures of active duty servicemen and women. The Commission to approach the Mayor about having an area in the Town Hall Lobby Atrium dedicated for this purpose.

  • Adjournment – Paul Barry made a motion to adjourn the meeting and it was seconded by Don Passaro.  Bernie adjourned the meeting at 7:56 p.m.
